Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology
The primary objective of our Department is to educate contemporary individuals who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to serve in all areas of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, who have internalized ethical values, who are aware of global realities, who embrace the importance of lifelong learning, and who conduct research, question, and renew themselves in line with their education, in accordance with internationally accepted standards. To this end, students are taught the fundamentals of pharmacology and toxicology, provided with practical knowledge to prepare them for clinical work, and given practical training in parallel with all theoretical subjects. In this way, students are taught both therapeutic and preventive medicine. Students can prepare simple drug forms in the laboratory, diagnose drugs and toxic substances and evaluate their effects, and utilize environmental science, ecosystems, and environmental protection values for the benefit of society.
They can evaluate legislation related to the production, licensing, marketing, promotion, and recall/withdrawal of veterinary drugs; organize social responsibility projects aimed at protecting human, animal, and environmental health or play an active role in such projects; and evaluate measures to prevent negative factors that cause developmental delays, decreased productivity, and reduced product quality in animals. The aim is to train qualified personnel in this field by offering both undergraduate and graduate courses. Within the veterinary undergraduate program, courses such as General Pharmacology, Special Pharmacology I, Special Pharmacology II, Toxicology and Environmental Science, General Treatment and Antidotes for Poisonings, Clinical Pharmacology and Prescription Information, and Analytical Applications in Pharmacology and Toxicology are taught in Turkish. In addition to educational and teaching activities, the Institute of Health Sciences offers Master's and Doctoral programs in Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology.
